Legislative Decree no. 116/2020 has been in force since 26 September 2020, which modifies Legislative Decree 152/2006 (Environmental Code) and implements the European directive on waste (EU 2018/851) as well as that on packaging and packaging waste (2018/852):

​

• On all packaging (primary, secondary and tertiary) producers must indicate the alphanumeric coding required by Decision 97/129/EC;

• All packaging must be labelled in the form and manner that the company deems most suitable and effective for achieving the objective;

• On packaging intended for the consumer, the appropriate wording must also be present to support him in separate waste collection;

• Mandatory to comply with the standard. This is the information required to be reported according to art. 219, paragraph 5. This information may be communicated with the proposed formula or with other methods, provided they are effective. The codifications refer to Decision 129/97/EC

• Highly recommended, to make communication more effective regarding packaging with separable multi-components. The written or graphic representation, also accompanied by the differentiation of colors for each individual component, helps the consumer to better separate the various elements.

• Recommended - voluntary information to enrich the communication with useful content and help consumers to separate waste without errors.
